For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so also by one Man’s obedience many will be made righteous.
What is obedience
1. Safety – The reason that the Father asks us to obey is not to corral us, but to liberate us and give us freedom.
2. Where there are no boundaries that cannot be freedom. Rules create freedom.
3. Obedience to the boundaries produces liberty, and disobedience produces confusion and death.
Examples of obedient and disobedient
a. Adam and Eve Disobeyed / Romans 5:12
b. Moses Num 20:8 “Take the staff. Assemble the community, you and your brother Aaron. Speak to that rock that’s right in front of them and it will give water. You will bring water out of the rock for them; congregation and cattle will both drink.” Num 20:9 Moses took the staff away from GOD’s presence, as commanded. Num 20:10 He and Aaron rounded up the whole congregation in front of the rock. Moses spoke: “Listen, rebels! Do we have to bring water out of this rock for you?” Num 20:11 With that Moses raised his arm and slammed his staff against the rock–once, twice. Water poured out. Congregation and cattle drank. Num 20:12 GOD said to Moses and Aaron, “Because you didn’t trust me, didn’t treat me with holy reverence in front of the People of Israel, you two aren’t going to lead this company into the land that I am giving them.”
c. Saul I Sam. 15:22
a. Noah– Heb 11:7 By faith, Noah built a ship in the middle of dry land. He was warned about something he couldn’t see, and acted on what he was told. The result? His family was saved. His act of faith drew a sharp line between the evil of the unbelieving world and the rightness of the believing world. As a result, Noah became intimate with God.
b. Abraham Leave your country Gen 12
Hebrews 5:7-10, While he lived on earth, anticipating death, Jesus cried out in pain and wept in sorrow as he offered up priestly prayers to God. Because he honored God, God answered him. Though he was God’s Son, he learned trusting-obedience by what he suffered, just as we do. Then, having arrived at the full stature of his maturity and having been announced by God as high priest in the order of Melchizedek, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who believingly obey him.
John 12:48-50, I came to save the world. But you need to know that whoever puts me off, refusing to take in what I’m saying, is willfully choosing rejection. The Word, the Word-made-flesh that I have spoken and that I am, that Word and no other is the last word. I’m not making any of this up on my own. The Father who sent me gave me orders, told me what to say and how to say it. And I know exactly what his command produces: real and eternal life. That’s all I have to say. What the Father told me, I tell you.”
Joh 15:9-14, “I’ve loved you the way my Father has loved me. Make yourselves at home in my love. If you keep my commands, you’ll remain intimately at home in my love. That’s what I’ve done–kept my Father’s commands and made myself at home in his love. “I’ve told you these things for a purpose: that my joy might be your joy, and your joy wholly mature. This is my command: Love one another the way I loved you. This is the very best way to love. Put your life on the line for your friends. You are my friends when you do the things I command you.
Obedience always produces positive results.
