that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.
We are the bride of Christ, engaged until His return, and then we are going to become ONE with Christ.
The Jewish custom of marriage was like this:
1. The groom’s father made the approval of the choice of the bride (John 15:16
You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.).
2. Groom made a covenant with the brides father.
a. Drinking wine to seal the covenant (Ephesians 4:30, And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.).
b. Paying a price for the bride (1 Corinthians 6:20).
For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.)
c. Promise of coming back to take her (Acts 1:11…….This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.”).
3. Groom prepares a place (John 14:2, In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.).
4. The bride waits for his coming / she is keeping herself/ preparing herself.
Jesus is preparing a place for His bride and is getting ready to come and get His church, the bride.
It was during this waiting time that the bride PREPARED herself for the groom. She was learning how to be a good wife, how to raise the children, how to minister to her soon to be husband.
The church is in this moment. We are waiting for the Groom to come and get His church, the bride. We should be focused on getting ready, not flirting, and playing with every other option that is out there, and then at the last moment try to get all ready.
If you were engaged to a person and it was 1 year before the wedding, and they were away at a great distance. What would you think if they were going to clubs, partying, messing with other men or women, and just lived their life, not caring about your wedding or being pure for you? You heard they have slept with 5 different people, yet they were your soon to be?
If the bride stays focused, then there will be no time to sell out on your groom.
STAY FOCUSED, JESUS IS COMING, AND IT MIGHT BE TODAY!!
