John 4:4-9, To get there, he had to pass through Samaria. He came into Sychar, a Samaritan village that bordered the field Jacob had given his son Joseph. Jacob’s well was still there. Jesus, worn out by the trip, sat down at the well. It was noon. 7-8 A woman, a Samaritan, came to draw water. Jesus said, “Would you give me a drink of water?” (His disciples had gone to the village to buy food for lunch.)9 The Samaritan woman, taken aback, asked, “How come you, a Jew, are asking me, a Samaritan woman, for a drink?” (Jews in those days wouldn’t be caught dead talking to Samaritans.)
John 4:16-18, He said, “Go call your husband and then come back.” 17-18 “I have no husband,” she said. “That’s nicely put: ‘I have no husband.’ You’ve had five husbands, and the man you’re living with now isn’t even your husband. You spoke the truth there, sure enough.”
WHAT A CLEAR PICTURE OF JESUS SCREAMING THAT GOD LOVES PEOPLE, AND THAT HE LOOKS AT THE HEART!
When Jesus talked to this woman of Samaria He hit head on so many levels of prejudice.
1. Jesus was in Samaria.
Jewish tradition said that you do not have contact with the Samaritan people. They were considered lower than animals.
2. Jesus spoke to a woman in public.
The tradition was that a man would not talk to a woman in public, even his own wife. Jesus not only talked to a woman, but she was Samaritan!
3. Jesus spoke to a sinner woman.
She had 5 husbands and now she is shacking up with a man. Religion says to throw her away! Jesus said that she was redeemable!!
Jesus smashed prejudice, and this woman went and was the first evangelist and it changed the entire city!
Jesus only did what the Father told Him to do!
Our Father in heaven is not prejudice – WHY ARE WE?
Jesus proved that PREJUDICE IS TO BE OVERCOME AND DESTROYED!
BE LIKE JESUS TODAY AND OVERCOME PREJUDICE IN YOUR LIFE AND ENVIRONMENT.
