So it came to pass, when they had brought them outside, that he said, “Escape for your life! Do not look behind you nor stay anywhere in the plain. Escape to the mountains, lest you be destroyed.”
But his wife looked back behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.
Lot’s wife had a love affair with Sodom, and the lifestyle of the world. It cost her everything in the attempt to grab that old life.
This is one of the saddest moments in ministry. Watching people choose their old life over the life of Jesus. I can remember as each soul received Jesus and the joy that covered their face and the peace that flooded their soul. You could see the change in their lives, and they could not wait to be in the presence of Jesus. Their passion for the Word, getting into classes, asking question after question as they grew in relationship.
THE CROSSROADS……everyone comes to those crossroads. The temptation to go back!
A friend, a job, a party, some sex, a man or a woman……
Many choose to go back to their old life. They choose to return to what they hated in the first place. They asked Jesus to take them out of that lifestyle, they ESCAPED, but did not choose to cut ALL the cords. They always left a little door open, just a small one, just enough….
2 Peter 2:22
But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”
Do not be like Lot’s wife – she lost it all because she did not cut the love of the world. Run all the way to Jesus, and do not look back!
62 But Jesus said to him, “ No one, having put his hand to the plow, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.”
