2 Timothy 4:7-8, I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
BEING A FINISHER
It is so easy to be a starter
You see something fun and it stimulates your interest – so you start it
You meet someone you like and want a relationship – so you start
You want a new job and see one that looks better – so you start
You have a goal to accomplish losing 20lbs and you see a new exercise machine on TV that looks easy and promises great results – so you start
You want to accept Jesus and live for Him – so you start
You see a good church and want your family to know God – so you start
You see a ministry or class that you want to join – so you start
Starting something is EASY, the true test – ARE YOU A FINISHER?
BETWEEN THE BEGINNING & FINISH LINE
Anything is easy to START, but what lies between the start and finish line is why so many never cross it.
Paul – started the race in Acts 9:1-7
You would think that he would swoon the religious and grab the attention of the disciples – and he did all that, but not in the manner you would think.
You would also think it would be easy for Paul
2 Cor. 11:24-28, From the Jews five times I received forty stripes minus one. 25 Three times I was beaten with rods; once I was stoned; three times I was shipwrecked; a night and a day I have been in the deep; 26 in journeys often, in perils of waters, in perils of robbers, in perils of my own countrymen, in perils of the Gentiles, in perils in the city, in perils in the wilderness, in perils in the sea, in perils among false brethren; 27 in weariness and toil, in sleeplessness often, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness— 28 besides the other things, what comes upon me daily: my deep concern for all the churches.
It was not easy, but he made a choice – HE WOULD FINISH, AND FINISH STRONG!
Jesus – The Savior of our souls!
You would think He would swoop in and just be loved and accepted by everyone for who He is and was….
You and I
Garden of Gethsemane
Matt. 26:36-39, Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to the disciples, “Sit here while I go and pray over there.” 37 And He took with Him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and He began to be sorrowful and deeply distressed. 38 Then He said to them, “My soul is exceedingly sorrowful, even to death. Stay here and watch with Me.” 39 He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.”
John 19:28-29, After this, Jesus, knowing[e] that all things were now accomplished, that the Scripture might be fulfilled, said, “I thirst!” 29 Now a vessel full of sour wine was sitting there; and they filled a sponge with sour wine, put it on hyssop, and put it to His mouth. 30 So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He gave up His spirit.
We all want to go lose a few pounds, we all want to go to heaven, we all want to make a difference
It is not how you START – it is how you FINISH
