My wife hated driving long distances with me! When I got in the vehicle, I fueled up, and I was ready to go, go, go, go, go! I did not like to stop for pee breaks, and I did not want to stop for food. I have a destination, a place to be, and we were going to get there as quickly as possible. It was really bad one time when we drove in August of 1995 from GA to NY, with 3 babies in the van (all under the age of 5), and we only stopped for gas, and one time to eat. AHHHHHHHHHH!
We have all heard it said that you need to enjoy the flowers on the way……
It’s the trip, and not the destination……
It is not the EVENT, it is the JOURNEY….
Ladies, you are not exempt either!
Having performed so many weddings, I have found that the event of the wedding day many times muddles up the journey. When the bride gets engulfed in the wedding day planning to consumption, her entire life revolves about making it perfect. It is sad when it is over because sometimes the bride go into a mini-depression because it was anticlimactic.
When we think about Noah, we think about the ark.
When we think of Moses, we think of the burning bush.
When we think about Elisha, we think of the miracles.
When we think of Peter, it is his preaching on the day of Pentecost.
WE FORET THAT THEY HAD TO LIVE EVERYDAY, NOT JUST ON THE DAY OF THE EVENTS!
Noah had to build the boat for about 100 years, while he was being mocked!
Moses spent 40 years in the desert.
Elisha followed Elijah around and washed his feet.
Peter, he simply had a serious case of foot-mouth disease.
DO NOT GET DISCOURAGED BETWEEN EVENTS – it is the everyday plowing, seeding, watering, and pulling weeds, that makes the harvest available.
Hebrews 12:1-2, Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
