1 Thess. 5:20, Do not despise prophecies.
Prophecy is very important to our lives. It is God speaking to us through a man or a woman.
In the Old Testament prophecy held a different place than in the New Testament. In the Old Testament the people could not hear the voice of God for themselves, so they had to rely upon prophecy to get direction. It is important to realize that in the Old Testament they did not have the Holy Spirit living inside of them , and they did not have the right to have a personal relationship with God like we do today.
Since Jesus died on the cross, and the curtain in the Holy of Holies was torn in two (Matt. 27:51), we now have access into the most holy place to meet with our God through the blood of Jesus (Heb. 4:16).
NOW, TODAY, prophecy takes a different place in a believer.
We are not led by prophecy, we are led by the Holy Spirit. Romans 8:14, For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.
Prophecy is EXTREMELY important for confirming what the Holy Spirit has already directed you to do, or to go. It is God speaking and telling you that you are hearing correctly. Whew, I like that!
What if someone prophecies something that I have never heard before?
Great question! I call it the back pocket theory….lol. What that means is, if someone speaks over your life and you have never heard it put it in your back pocket and do not throw it away. If it is the leading of the Lord then it will come to fruition. No worries, rest, God’s words to us will always come true.
Remember yesterday’s devotions when we talked about how in one week, three prophesies were spoken about His Tabernacle, and what the Lord was going to do? SO WHAT DO WE DO WITH IT NOW? We start speaking what the Lord spoke and confirmed. We declare it, thank Jesus for it, and prepare for what the Lord has spoken through the prophetic words! Do not let them die, speak them out loud and call them into existence. It is exciting to watch the Father speak, and then unfold His desires for our lives individually, and corporately.
**ONE LAST NOTE….prophecy always lines up with the written Word of God, it will NEVER contradict!
