This week at His Tabernacle Family Church (Monday-Thursday), from 7-8pm we will be coming together to pray as a family. Starting last evening at midnight we began fasting.
What is the purpose of fasting?
Matthew 6:16-18
“ Moreover, when you fast, do not be like the hypocrites, with a sad countenance. For they disfigure their faces that they may appear to men to be fasting. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head and wash your face, so that you do not appear to men to be fasting, but to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.
Jesus was clear that fasting must be a part of our lives. Jesus didn’t say, “IF”, He said, “WHEN” you fast.
So fasting has great importance, or Jesus wouldn’t have told us to do it.
The first fallacy about fasting is that when I fast God will have to do what I’m asking, because I gave stuff up. That is not true.
Fasting does nothing for God!!!
Fasting is for US!
The enemy of our spirit is our flesh.
Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace. For the sinful nature is always hostile to God. It never did obey God’s laws, and it never will. (Romans 8:5-7 NLT)
Fasting brings our fleshly desires under house arrest so that we are more aware, and paying attention more to what God’s desires are, than our fleshly desires.
Fasting starves, and makes our flesh angry because it loses control!
